On Monday, September 14, 2020, at 2:15 p.m., officers responded to the 9700 block of Old Lincoln Trail for an accidental death.
Officers arrived to discover the victim, Curtis Johnson Jr, 31 years of age, Granite City, IL, dead. Officers found that Johnson was working with a tree trimming crew at the location. It is believed that while Johnson was loading limbs into a wood chipper, a rope became tangled in the machine, which entangled Johnson’s neck, ultimately causing his death.
No other workers were harmed during the incident.
